Some of you are probably curious to how Oscar's comeback in the showring went...
I picked up Oscar on Saturday night.. When I rolled up his bed he went ballistic.. crying, crying and crying. To much fun to go SOMEWHERE with mom.. like in the olden days !! :-))
We went to my apartment, jumped in the bathtub and Oscar had a good cleaning with my shampoo and balsam :-)))
We left early Sunday morning.. had a great 3 hour ride and got to the show site...pick up the catalogue and see that Oscar is in "open" class !!!
We get comfortable ring side after Oscar has played BLOODHOUND... "Sucking" up all the wonderful smells on the ground :-))))
I go to the officials and they tell me that yes..this is a specialty BUT it is not a "Raduno"...a raduno is a specialty so it beats me what the difference is and I made a point to tell them that they had the veteran class for THIS show on their entry form and it was accepted and paid for !! Well... no help... If I want to show, I am in Open class.
There were tons of Danes all colors at the show but in the open blue there was just one other boy..he was a nice looking boy and I felt a little silly competing with my 9 year old for the CACIB/CAC = to the US points (Oscar can compete for the points or ticket as he is not an Italian adult Ch) .As this was an International show Judge was Mr Neugel, breed judge from Switzerland
Blues are last out in the ring and so it was past 2 o'clock before it was our time.
The other boy is judged first.
Then it is our turn.. Mr Neugel says.. "big tight feet, good topline, good forechest, good angulations, good substance...... " He asks me for an up and back... he asks to see Oscar's teeth and he says " excellent scissors bite but worn down front teeth"... then he looks at me and asks how old Oscar is. I say nine. Mr Neugel gets speechless for a few seconds .. looks at me and says "nine ???????? " !
I say "yes"... The superlatives that followed I don't even know if I remember but in there was "super" and the look of disbelief on his face was the most incredible moment for me ! The ring steward was smiling form ear to ear and Mr Neugel made her write Oscar's age on the critique. He then proceeded to compare the 2 dogs and gave the win to Oscar !!!! Oscar must be the oldest Dane in history to get a CACIB/CAC !!!
WE WON and I cried :-))))
BOB went to the male from the Junior class
End of story... the best part of Oscar I never got to show the judge, which is Oscar's side gait. I guess he got so stunned he simply forgot as we were the only class not to go "around". Oscar is still 100% sound today and what is amazing even to me is that the judge had NO IDEA that this was an older Dane until he asked about his age because of the worn down front teeth !!
On the critique the judge wrote "good presentation"..that's hilarious !! The first thing Oscar did in the ring was to yawn and I had to "poke him"...and I can guarantee you that he was not "up"... I tried to talk about exciting stuff with Oscar but he just looked at me with the "mom, don't be silly..... I know that cat is not here... !! " expression..
